Reorientation of magnetic moments under mechanical stresses in FeCl 2 at 0 K : theoretical predictions

چکیده
2014 We predict in the case of FeCl2 which is an uniaxial antiferromagnet for T ~ TN (~ 25 K), that one can modify the Fe+2 ions crystalline field symmetry by applying a mechanical stress and hence modify the moment orientation of these ions. We give as function of the crystalline field variation 03B4W, an expression for the components of the tensor which relates the moment variation of each ion with the crystal strains. 0 K results are obtained for the antiferromagnetic and saturated paramagnetic phases, this latter phase being obtained by application of a strong enough magnetic field along the moment alignment direction. Our results are compatible with symmetry considerations. The size of the predicted moment variation suggests that it could be observed experimentally. From the tensor components measurement one can deduce the value of some of the crystalline field derivatives with respect to strains. J. Experimental Study on the Magnetomechanical Characteristics of Ni-Mn-Ga Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloy Single Crystals
Magnetic shape memory properties of Ni-Mn-Ga single crystals were characterized by measurement of stress-induced martensite reorientation under constant magnetic fields. Also magnetic field-induced strain as a function of the applied magnetic field under different constant compressive stress levels has been investigated. All the experiments were performed at room temperature in which the sample...
متن کاملMetamagnetic transition in EuFe2As2 single crystals
We report the measurements of anisotropic magnetization and magnetoresistance on single crystals of EuFe2As2, a parent compound of ferro-arsenide hightemperature superconductor. Apart from the antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin-densitywave transition at 186 K associated with Fe moments, the compound undergoes another magnetic phase transition at 19 K due to AFM ordering of Eu spins (J = S = 7/2). The...

In this paper, a semi-analytical solution for magneto-thermo-elastic problem in an axisymmetric functionally graded (FG) hollow rotating disk with constant thickness placed in uniform magnetic and thermal fields with heat convection from disk’s surfaces is presented. Solution for stresses and perturbation of magnetic field vector in a thin FG rotating disk is determined using infinitesimal theo...

In this article, the magneto-thermo-elastic problem of exponentially graded material (EGM) hollow rotating disk placed in uniform magnetic and temperature fields is considered. Exact solutions for stresses and perturbations of the magnetic field vector in EGM hollow rotating disk are determined using the infinitesimal theory of magneto-thermo-elasticity under plane stress. The material properti...

In this article, magneto-thermo-elastic stresses and perturbation of magnetic field vector are analyzed for a thick-walled cylinder made from polystyrene, reinforced with functionally graded (FG) single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in radial direction, while subjected to an axial and uniform magnetic field as well as a transient thermal field. Generalized plane strain state is considered in...
